The Money Mirror: 8 Archetypes That Shape Your Financial Story

Let’s start with a confession.

On July 4, 2025, I claimed my Day of Financial Independence. I paid off thousands of dollars in business debt that had been lingering like a shadow over my shoulder for years, the result of investing (and reinvesting) in my coaching practice.

It felt terrifying. And liberating. And nauseating.

Because here’s the controversial part: I pulled money from my retirement account to do it.

Yep. Gasp. Cringe. Cue the Suze Orman and Dave Ramsey voices yelling "You NEVER do that."

And to them, I say: a kind, but firm, F you.

They don’t know my life. They’re not walking in my shoes. I’m a grown-ass woman, a financial coach, and someone who deeply understands the consequences of every money decision I make. And I didn’t make this move alone. I sat down with my financial planner, mapped out the pros and cons, and made the best decision for me at this season of my life.

And honestly? That kind of agency, that permission to do what’s best for you even when it goes against "the rules," is the entire reason I’m writing this blog series.

What if your money patterns aren’t flaws… but reflections?

What if the way you save, spend, avoid, or obsess about money isn’t a character flaw or personal failing, but a pattern you inherited, or a strategy you unconsciously learned to stay safe, loved, or in control?

That’s what the Sacred Money Archetypes® have revealed to me, and to so many of the women I work with.

And over the next 8 weeks, I’m going to introduce you to each of these 8 archetypes, the light, the shadow, the deeply relatable truths, so you can begin to understand your own financial story in a totally new way.

My first time taking the quiz? I kinda hated my result.

Three years ago, I was in Sedona with a group of women entrepreneurs. One of them asked if I’d ever taken the Sacred Money Archetypes® quiz (this was Denise Duffield-Thomas’ version). I hadn’t, so we all pulled out our phones and took it on the spot.

When I saw my results, I was a bit confused.

My top archetype was Maverick. I didn’t relate to it at all at the time. (Rebel energy? High risk tolerance? Chaotic money moves? Was this me? It didn’t register.)
My second was Accumulator, totally made sense. And third was Ruler, the ambitious overachiever. Also tracked.

But Maverick? That one took time. Almost a full year, in fact, and it wasn’t until I became certified as a Sacred Money Archetypes® coach through Kendall SummerHawk’s training that I truly saw myself in that archetype.

Now? I adore my Maverick. She makes bold moves. She doesn’t apologize. She doesn’t do money in a box.
And the more I’ve embraced these archetypes, in myself and in my clients, the less shame I feel around how I do money.

What I see in women, especially in midlife...

So many of the women I work with are quietly terrified they don’t have enough for retirement.
They’re burned out from caregiving, overworking, and constantly trying to make up for lost time.
They question their past decisions. They put themselves last. They silently wonder if they’re too late.

But then… something shifts.
They learn their archetype. They see their patterns.
And for the first time, they realize:

“Oh… this isn’t just me. This is my money wiring. My money story. My archetype.”

There’s a mix of relief, curiosity, and self-forgiveness that begins to rise. That’s the power of this work.

Why I call it “The Money Mirror”

Because money reflects back more than just numbers.

It shows you your boundaries, your desires, your beliefs about self-worth, your stories about safety and enoughness. It mirrors how you were parented, how you coped, how you’ve tried to belong.

And when you start to see your archetypes through a lens of compassion instead of shame, you begin to see yourself more clearly too.

Here’s what I hope you get from this series

I hope you stop beating yourself up for the decisions you’ve made.
I hope you realize you’re not broken. You’ve just been carrying stories that aren’t yours, or no longer serve you.

More than anything, I hope you begin to trust that your way of doing money isn’t wrong, it’s just wired by your archetype.
